Cardiff's Premier Double Glazing Installer - Windows, Doors, Conservatories and Roofs
Most Frequently Asked Questions About Double Glazing
How long will my double glazed windows last?
The windows are built to survive long-term. We give a 10-year guarantee on the window casings and a 5-year guarantee on the sealed doubled-glazed units, but you can expect your windows to last longer. Often the reason to change is because of new technology rather than the windows failing.
I’m in a conservation area. Will I need planning permission?
Our company offers specially designed UPVC, aluminium and timber windows to suit any property whilst maintaining originality. Generally, you do not need planning permission unless you live in a listed building, are in a conservation area, or you have an article 4 direction on your property which removes the usual rights of permitted development. This information can usually be found on the deeds for your house but it’s always worth checking if you have any doubts. You can find information about planning permission in the Cardiff area on these pages. If you do need to submit information, we are happy to provide support with layouts required for planning approval applications.
Can you match my existing style of window?
We offer a wide variety of UPVC windows and aluminium windows and can usually match styles. The modern woodgrain coatings give the appeal of genuine woodgrain finishes without the hassle of maintenance required with real wood. We are happy to provide suggestions and quotes without any obligation.
Timber windows can be made to replicate your original frames in every detail.
What’s the energy rating of your windows?
The energy performance of a window is influenced by a wide range of factors. There is a standardised rating scheme to help you find the most efficient.
Window manufacturers can show the energy efficiency of their products using an energy-rating scale from A++ to E. The whole window (the frame and the glass) is assessed to allow for heat loss, draughts and solar gain, giving a rating that indicates the overall impact of fitting that window in your home.
The British Fenestration Rating Council (BFRC) runs the scheme. To choose the most energy-efficient window, look for the BFRC rating.
All of our windows have ratings of A-C. If we are replacing windows with lesser ratings, You should save money on heating bills, have more consistent heat through the house and hear less noise from outside. Find out more about energy efficient windows.
How much will my windows cost?
All our windows are customised to the requirements of your house. The unique combination of your sizes and design choices will determine the price. Our Surveyor will visit your home to carry out a free, no-obligation assessment before we present a quote. It can be difficult to know how to choose when companies offer seemingly high discounts are so abundant. Before being taken in by these promotion tactics, read this article by Sian Wood which explains these tactics and how they are presented to manipulate customers into placing orders based on fear of missing out. We do not use any of these tactics. Our pricing policy is decided fairly to allow us to stay in business but gives our customers superb value for money. In double glazing, you really do get what you pay for.
How long will it take to fit my windows?
The length of time it takes to install your windows and doors will depend on how many items there are. Your surveyor will give you an indication once he has measured your windows. One thing that we would like to assure you of is that we do not rush your job. All of our installers are fully employed. This is unusual in the double glazing industry, but we made the decision because we know that customer dissatisfaction noted from other companies’ feedback most often comes because the job has been rushed by sub-contractors. Our installers are paid a regular wage and have no incentive to finish a job more quickly than the job warrants.
How long will it take to receive my new windows?
We are proud that we have a long history of installing within 2-3 weeks of receiving the order, with variations if the order contains unusual items. Currently, we are having to adapt to the effects of COVID which means that we are currently quoting 8-12 weeks. We hope to resume shorter lead times as soon as possible.
