Black Aluminium & White uPVC. Yes or No?
Most homeowners choose one colour for all their windows and patio doors but it's not a hard and fast rule. Sometimes,...
Splott’s industrial past dates back to the 19th century when it became an important centre for coal and iron exports. The area was home to several large industries, including the Cardiff Gas Works, which was one of the largest in the world at the time. The docks were also a key feature of the area, with several coal-exporting businesses located there. The industrial boom in Splott attracted many people to the area, and it soon became one of the largest and most populated districts in Cardiff.
The construction of most homes in Splott took place from 1875 to 1914, mainly intended to accommodate steelworks labourers. The primary early streets established were Splott Road, Portmanmoor Road, and Moorland Road.
No wonder then that many of the houses are terraced with front bay windows, which would usually have been fitted with sash windows.
Our customer in this terraced house chose to replace the sash windows with uPVC casement windows. A lot of houses in Splott have done the same. When you choose casement windows, you can either specify top lights as you see in most of these windows or half and half as in the fourth image.
Our customer chose an oak surround to set off this lovely duck egg blue Solidor Composite door. When you choose a composite door, the surround will normally be white uPVC. You could also choose the same colour as the door or a contrast.
The French doors are off the galley kitchen, typical of terraced houses. While once there may only have been a back door, French doors let in more light and open up nicely to the garden.
UPVC French doors are a popular choice for homeowners who want to bring a touch of elegance and style to their homes. These doors consist of two or more panels, with each panel hinged to open inwards or outwards. The UPVC material used to make these doors is strong, durable, and low maintenance, making it an ideal choice for modern homes. UPVC French doors are also energy-efficient, with a multi-chambered frame design that helps to keep homes warm in winter and cool in summer. They come in a variety of styles, finishes, and colours to suit any home décor and are often used to create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Here’s another homeowner who chose to replace sash windows with casement windows. In this case, they kept the typical half-and-half proportions of sash windows. The opening top window allows for more airflow and puts the handle in easier reach.
The traditional look of the front door is maintained with a Solidor Ludlow composite door and the etched number in the window above. The chrome door furniture contrasts with the black beautifully.
Solidor composite doors are highly regarded for their exceptional quality, durability, and security features. These doors are made from a combination of materials, including solid timber, PVC, and composite materials, which make them stronger and more secure than traditional wooden doors. Solidor composite doors are available in a variety of styles and finishes, allowing homeowners to choose a door that perfectly complements their home’s aesthetics.
The doors are also highly energy-efficient, thanks to their multi-layered construction and high-quality insulation, which helps to reduce energy bills and improve the overall comfort of the home. With a Solidor composite door, homeowners can enjoy both style and security, making them a popular choice for those looking to upgrade their front door.
This terraced house on Splott got a modern makeover with uPVC windows. Large opening windows at the top allow lots of airflow and echo the proportions of the window at the top of the door.
The Solidor Conway composite door is a stylish and highly secure door option for any home. This door is made with a solid timber core and durable and weather-resistant outer skin, ensuring both strength and longevity. The door comes in a range of attractive designs and finishes, including a classic woodgrain effect or a sleek and modern anthracite grey.
In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Solidor Conway door is highly secure, featuring a Ultion 3-star cylinder lock and a robust 44mm door slab. The door is also energy-efficient, with its advanced insulation properties helping to keep the home warm and reduce energy bills. With its blend of style, security, and energy efficiency, the Solidor Conway composite door is an excellent choice for any homeowner looking to upgrade their entrance door.
It’s always nice to work on something a bit different. Our door designer helps you to envision colours and make bold choices. The black in the stone coordinates well and gives the house a modern look while enhancing the traditional features.
Another difference here is that the customers have chosen to have the top windows fixed and the bottom windows top hung. They also could have chosen one single window, which also would have worked well.
